The Leopard - swift, strong and steadfast

Leopard in the bible

The leopard is famous for its swiftness in pursuing its prey. Once it has seen its target, it does not turn back until the hunted animal is brought to the ground, however fast it tries to escape. It can also lie in ambush, waiting patiently for the opportunity to pounce, and then it does not miss!

Leopard in the bible:

"Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse.......Look from the top of Amana.......From the mountains of the leopards." (Song of Solomon 4: 8).

The Bridegroom in the Song of Solomon (Jesus) wanted to take His beloved (those who love Him) to the mountains of the leopards. Jesus wants us to learn how to be like them, and feel at home on the mountains of the leopards. Most of us have only seen leopards in zoos, in a cage, sleeping most of the time until meal time approaches. Then they pace up and down until they are given their meat to eat. We can admire their beautiful spotted coat, their rippling muscles, and be glad that we are out of range of their sharp pointed teeth and powerful paws and claws, with which they kill their prey and tear it to shreds.

In the wild, however, the leopard is famous for its swiftness in pursuing its prey. Once it has seen its target, it does not turn back until the hunted animal is brought to the ground, however fast it tries to escape. It can also lie in ambush, waiting patiently for the opportunity to pounce, and then it does not miss!

There are not many leopards in Israel today, and there are not many people who have the mind of a leopard when it concerns being diligent to obey God’s laws, and overcoming all disobedience. Jesus fulfilled every word of God, for example - "I have pursued my enemies and overtaken them; neither did I turn back again till they were destroyed." Psalm 18: 37. The prey was all the sin in human nature - stubbornness, pride, laziness, jealousy, bad temper, anxiety and all unpleasant and unkind words.

If we will be a leopard against such things, then we will become as it is written further in Song of Solomon 4: 11 - "Your lips, O my spouse, drip as the honeycomb; honey and milk are under your tongue; and the fragrance of your garments is like the fragrance of Lebanon."

Think, to speak words that really bless and nourish others. Through faith and patience our deeds can have the precious fragrance of the virtues of Jesus - love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, kindness, because we have hunted and devoured the opposite.
